Do you have lunch at school? Do you like having lunch at school? School dinners (that means “lunch”) are a hot topic in the UK these days and there are lots of different opinions about what young people eat at lunchtime. Some people think that school meals are unhealthy; some people say that they are much better than in the past and others say that midday meals should be free for all school children.

A typical school dinner costs about 2 pounds a day for a secondary(中学的) pupil in the UK. There is usually a main course, a dessert and a drink. Parents often pay in advance online. School dinners must include food groups such as fruit and vegetables, protein (for example meat, fish or cheese) and carbohydrate(for example rice or pasta). There are rules about how the food is prepared, for example there are limits on the quantity of fried food.

Martha Payne, from Scotland, started a blog called “Neverseconds” about her school dinners when she was just nine years old. She posts photographs of her lunch every day and gives the food a grade out of ten. The grade depends on the quality and quantity of the food and how healthy it is. She doesn’t always give good grades. Her complaints include too much fried food, small quantities and hair in the food. Many people read her blog and young people from all over the world post pictures of their school meals on Neverseconds.

Jamie Oliver, the celebrity(著名,名人) British chef, is concerned about school dinners. He thinks that they need to be healthier and tastier. Jamie helped to promote Martha’s blog by tweeting(推特)about it and Neverseconds became very popular, very quickly on social media websites. On the blog, Martha also collects money for charity(慈善).       With the development of society, many people are coming under the umbrella of fatness. Not just adults, but even children are getting overweight. Today some of the newborn babies are also born fat. It has been proved that the people living in the western developed countries are more likely to become overweight. There are a number of causes behind this.

The people in the developed countries including the United States almost enjoy all the comforts of life. Most of the western developed countries are cold ones. Nature demands that people eat the kinds of food so as to make them stand the coldness. Therefore, wine, fatty dairy productsbread, junk food, and red meat become important diets in these countries.

Howeverthe blame cannot be entirely put on the unhealthy eating habits of the people. Technology allows them to import almost all the food products that they do not grow. Although some healthy foods are grown in the countries nowadaysthe quantity is very limited. It is not enough to meet the demand. So when they are not available and fatty foods are cheaper, people prefer to go for the eating habit that they have always been following.

A. warn us of our bad eating habits in the developed countries

C. inform us of the causes of weight gain in the developed countries

D. tell us that fatness in the developed countries is natural

All of us will need someone else’s help to deal with problem in our life. Who   will you turn for help? Some say they will ask their friends for help, because they are peers, but they can understand each other easy.

However, others have different choices when in the trouble. They were willing to tell their teachers and parents the difficulties we are faced with. In their opinion, teachers and parents who are much old than them can give them a hand with their rich experience. As for me, close friends are always the people which come to my mind first when I am puzzling by something that can’t be solved by myself.

书面表达

On hearing that you would like to be a volunteer of the 2020 Olympics, I can’t wait to express my opinions on it.

When it comes to doing voluntary work, what interests me most is that we can meet top athletes all over the world. For one thing, as a volunteer, you must be enthusiastic and devoted. For another, you are expected to serve as a guide for the athletes and provide them with useful information, translation and other services.  Last but not least, it’s very important to have a good command of knowledge about first aid in order to give the athletes a hand when necessary.  Only by doing so can you do a good job as a volunteer.

To conclude, nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it. I strongly believe that you can have fun and benefit from the voluntary work.
