A

I have been in Limoges for a month now. since living here, I have tried to integrate(融合) into the local community and one way I have found to do this is by following the local rugby team.

I decided to look for information on the local rugby team after the tourism office could not help me. I searched for the club office online and decided to look into it. The following day I went back to the club after speaking with them and decided to get a season ticket for the rest of my stay here. I will now be going to each home game as well as travelling to the away games with the team and the fans. I am sure that it is going to be a great experience during my time abroad here. I will also be travelling through various regions of France so I will be visiting new places throughout the season. There is another team in a town called Brive not so far away who play in the top league in France, but I decided to stay local. I may go and see them with other assistants if possible during our stay.

I witnessed a friendly match on Saturday when they played Stade Dijon in the division below them. The match finished 70-12. After the match, both teams went to the club house to see the Rugby World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and Australia. Both teams respected each others which is something you don’t always see in other sports. I spoke to the president of the club after the game and he told me, “This is a family club.” Hopefully this year will be a good year for Limoges.

21. How did the writer try to combine into Limoges' community?

Odland remembers like it was yesterday working in an expensive French restaurant in Denver. The ice cream he was serving fell onto the white dress of a rich and important woman.

Thirty years have passed, but Odland can not get the memory out of his mind, nor the woman’ s kind reaction. She was shocked, regained calmness and, in a kind voice, told the young Odland. “It is OK. It wasn’t your fault.” When she left the restaurant, she also left the future Fortune 500 CEO with a life lesson: You can tell a lot about a person by the way he or she treats the waiter.

Odland isn’t the only CEO to have made this discovery. Instead, it seems to be one of those few laws of the land that every CEO learns on the way up. It’s hard to get a dozen CEOs to agree about anything , but most agree with the Waiter Rule. They say how others treat the CEO says nothing. But how others treat the waiter is like a window into the soul.

Watch out for anyone who pulls out the power card to say something like, “I could buy this place and fire you,” or “I know the owner and I could have you fired.” Those who say such things have shown more about their character than about their wealth and power.

The CEO who came up with it, or at least first wrote it down, is Raytheon CEO Bill Swanson. He wrote a best-selling book called Swanson’s Unwritten Rules of Management. “A person who is nice to you but rude to the waiter, or to others, is not a nice person,” Swanson says. “I will never offer a job to the person who is sweet to the boss but turns rude to someone cleaning the tables.”

25.  What happened after Odland dropped the ice cream onto the woman’s dress?

    A. The woman comforted him.   B. He was blamed.

C. He was fired.         D. The woman left the restaurant at once.

26.  Odland learned one of his life lessons from ________.

    A. an article in Fortune        B. the advice given by the CEOs

    C. his experience as a waiter      D. an interesting best-selling book

27.  According to the text, most CEOs have the same opinion about ________.

    A. Fortune 500 companies           B. the Management Rules

    C. Swanson’s book              D. the Waiter Rule

28.  From the text we can learn that ________.

    A. one should be nicer to important people

    B. CEOs often show their power before others

    C. one should respect others no matter who they are

  D. CEOs often have meals in expensive restaurants

C

Ever since Grumpy Cat first appeared online, the Internet can’t get enough of her. But attention is not the only thing that this cat is getting. Her fortune is estimated at $ 100 million, more than many famous actors and musicians earn.

So how did it all start?

Grumpy Cat’s owner Tabatha Bundesen was working as a waitress when her brother Bryan decided to take a photo of her funny-looking cat and post it on Reddit, the social-news site. In a matter of hours, she became a sensation(轰动).

It got 1 million views on Imgur in 48 hours.

Grumpy Cat’s real name is Tardar Sauce and she actually has a condition called dwarfism, which makes her constantly frowning. But that unique frown turned out to be worth millions of dollars.

Tabatha, who lives in Arizona in US, isn’t complaining. She still remembers that September 22, 2012, when her life turned upside down.

Since her cat became a worldwide phenomenon, she was able to quit her job and devote her life to managing her cat’s modeling career. Sounds unbelievable, but it’s true. She says that her only job now is to book Tardar’s photo shoots, commercials(商业广告), and other appearances.

What are the other benefits of owning a million-dollar cat?

Apart from not having to work, Tabatha can travel all the time. She has time and money to visit her family more often and enjoy her life. She never could have imagined just how huge her cat would become, but she always knew Tardar was very special. And she is glad to see her cat bringing joy to so many people around the world.

As for the millions of dollars Grumpy has earned, they come from all the products, commercials and a best-selling book. She even has her own movie—Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.

29. What does the underlined part “the Internet can’t get enough of her’ mean?

   A. The Internet can’t stand her any more.

   B. The Internet can’t pay more attention to her.

   C. People don’t focus on her any longer on the Internet.

   D. The Internet can’t find enough information about her.

30. What made Grumpy Cat become famous?

   A. Her unusual appearance.                   B. Her bad temper.

   C. Her short and fat body.                    D. Her unique fur.

31. About Tabatha Bundesen, we know that____________.

   A. she now works as a waitress.        B. she feels very tired of her famous cat.

   C. she only manages her can’s modeling career.

D. she is too busy to go home to visit her parents

32. The general idea of the last paragraph is_____________.

   A. how the cat can become so famous.

B. how the cat can make so much money.

   C. what the film about the cat is named

D. how the cat’s owner spend so much money

Scientists said on Thursday they have for the first time detected gravitational (引力的) waves, ripples (涟波) in space and time hypothesized (假设) by physicist Albert Einstein a century ago, in a landmark discovery that opens a new window for studying the cosmos.

Discovering gravitational waves would be a huge deal for physics, cosmology, and our understanding of the universe at large. But if you’re not a scientist studying one of the mentioned fields, it’s possible you’ve never heard of these mysterious ripples. So what are gravitational waves and why is the discovery so significant?

Gravitational waves are disturbances in space-time, the very fabric of the universe, that travel at the speed of light. The waves are sent out by any mass that is changing speed or direction. The simplest example is a binary (二元的) system, where a pair of stars or compact objects (like black holes) orbit their common center of mass.

We can think of gravitational effects as curvatures (曲率) in space-time. Earth’s gravity is constant and produces a static curve in space-time. A gravitational wave is a curvature that moves through space-time much like a water wave moves across the surface of a lake. It is generated only when masses are speeding up, slowing down or changing direction.

The new discovery was made by a group of more than 1,000 scientists from universities around the United States as well as in 14 other countries. Director David Reitze announced on Thursday at a press conference that they detected gravitational waves.

While opening a door to new ways to observe the universe, scientists said gravitational waves should help them gain knowledge about mysterious objects like black holes and neutron stars. The waves also may provide insight into the mysterious nature of the very early universe.

The scientists said that because gravitational waves are so radically (彻底地) different from electromagnetic waves they expect them to reveal big surprises about the universe.

33. The author explains the term of gravitational waves _______.

A. by classifying                  B. by giving cause and effect

C. by making a comparison              D. by presenting a definition

34. The number of the countries that have scientists in the new discovery of gravitational waves is _______.

   A. 12.      B. 13.      C. 14.      D. 15.

35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

A. Scientists can get further information about the universe by studying gravitational waves.

B. Scientists expect gravitational waves to reveal big surprises about the universe.

C. Gravitational waves are so radically different from electromagnetic waves.

D. Scientists from all the world work together to study the mystery of the solar system.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Most people actually do not know how to do basic first aid on mild burns. It is normally taken for granted since most people think that soacking (浸泡) the burn with water is the way to go.    36

Once the burn appears, you will surely feel much pain on the actual burned skin. Technically, this is the time to stay calm.    37   Finding a source of running water is recommended. However, if there is none, any source will do. If there is running water, simply place the burned area under it and allow it to soak the water for about 5 to 10 minutes.    38  If you have access to ice or a cold compress(冷敷布), you can use that as well. You can place the ice or cold compress on the affected area and leave it there about 15 to 30 minutes. The ice will numb the pain and will also stop more injury on the skin.

After soaking in water or cooling the area with ice, remove from the water source and allow the moisture to dry naturally. You may also consider patting it down dry with a towel or napkin, however, this could damage the burnt skin even more.   39

As soon as the area dries up completely, get a bandage or a strip of cloth.   40 This will protect that area from infection caused by outside dirt and dust getting into the open burn.

A. Call a doctor may as well help in most burn cases.

B. The thing is that treating a mild burn goes deeper than just soaking the affected part in water.

C. It is best to dry it naturally instead.

D. Wrap it around the burn to cover the open area of skin.

E. The truth is that soaking is the last thing to do to deal with mild burn.

F. The first thing you will need to do will be to find a clean water source.

G. This will relieve some of the pain, cool down the skin, and stop additional burning.

书面表达

As we all know, class is a place where students ought to work hard to realize their dreams. However, there are some students not using class properly, making things go from bad to worse. For example, some students play mobile phones or sleep in class, wasting quantities of precious time. What's worse, some students enjoy chatting with others. Not only does it affect their own study, but also it will do harm to others.

As far as I am concerned, the main reason is that they don't realize the importance of study. To solve this problem, they have to understand making full use of class is the best way to improve the efficiency of study. After all, time waits for no man.
