A year ago, my friend and I went to a nearby town to attend a wedding. After the reception, we were waiting for a public transport bus to go back home. It was nine o'clock at night, and although many buses passed, none stopped.

We waited for an hour and were getting desperate. We wouldn't be able to stay overnight because it was a weekday, and we both needed to work the next day. It was almost 10 p.m. when a family who had attended the same wedding passed by in their car. Probably sensing that we were waiting for some means of transport, they stopped and gave us a lift. I was so touched by their kindness, and I expressed my thanks to them.

When we reached my hometown, the family dropped us at the nearest point from where we could catch a shared taxi to get back to the spot where we had parked our bike. On the way, a worker stopped the taxi. The driver saw his clothes and asked him whether he had money to pay the fare.

The worker shook his head and said, "No". On hearing this, the driver refused to take him. I remembered my own plight a few minutes earlier, and I told the driver to allow him to sit with us, as I would pay his fare. What an immediate opportunity to pass on the family's act of kindness! That night, I felt light-hearted and I went to sleep happily and filled with joy about what I had gotten to do. May this chain of kindness continue!

24. Why were the author and his friend waiting for a bus at nine o’clock at night?

A. Because they were going to attend a wedding.

B. Because they planned to help a worker.

C. Because they intended to meet a family.

D. Because they wanted to go back home.

25. What was the driver’s attitude toward the worker’s asking for a lift?

A. Unfriendly.                   B. Merciful.          C. Positive               D. Respectful.

26. The underlined word “plight” in paragraph 4 could best be replaced by “_________”.

  A. opportunity                B. trouble         C. kindness                  D. tiredness

27. What is the best title for the passage?

A. A Kind and Helpful Family       B. An Unusual Wedding

C. Magic Chain of Kindness          D. Attitude Decides Everything

第二节:(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中的两项为多余选项。

Have you ever set a goal for yourself and got excited to get working on it? The first few weeks are great! You’re moving forward. ___36___ Before you know it, your goals have taken a back seat. Sound familiar? We are not alone. Many face the same struggle. Here are the four ways to complete these goals.

Make yourself a priority(优先权).

You most likely put others before yourself. It is a wonderful thing to want to help others, but if you are putting others before your own priorities and goals, you will be quickly in a great pressure. This is a habit we have to get rid of. If we don’t care about ourselves first, we can’t be our best to help others. Take yourself seriously. ___37___

Make clear goals with action steps.

___38___. Create action steps, and no matter how small you think they are, use them. It becomes a way for you to measure your progress. Don’t discount the small steps. When life gets in the way it’s so much easier to move on or pick right back up when you have these small action steps to guide you.

Create your own hope.

This is your self-talk. Make it positive and daily. You do not need permission to take action towards your goals and don’t wait for someone to give you this permission. If you need to, seek positive influencers and listen to their stories. Learn to say “No.” ___39___. This is your journey, not theirs.

___40___

Have a mindset to be grateful for the things, people, and opportunities in your life. If we don’t appreciate what we have now, how would we be able to appreciate anything once we completed our goals? Each of us has our own life experiences and life struggles, which shape us into who we are. They are lessons that can either make you or break you. The choice is up to you and determines if you will be successful in achieving you goals.

A. The more details you can have with your goal, the better.

B. Make this a positive healthy habit.

C. Then life starts throwing tons of difficulties at you.

D. Learn to be thankful.

E. Focus on the process.

F. You don’t have to do everything for everyone.

G. This is actually difficult for those of us that care for others.

第二节(共10小题;每小题1.5分,共15分)

阅读下面语句,在空白处填入适当的内容(不多于1个单词)或括号内单词适当的形式,并将答案填写在答题卡相应的位置上。

I had a wonderful school time, thanks to my Chinese teacher, who inspired(激励) me to do great things.

When I could say my first word, I ___61___ (attract) by words and books. It was my Chinese teacher who grew my love of reading and influenced me a lot. Under her encouragement, I would spend hours ___62__ (bury) myself in novels, even if my friends just laughed at me. She encouraged reading: not just in class, ___63__ also on our own. The main reason why I like her so much is ___64__ she is the one of the kindest teachers I have ever had. Whatever story you wanted ___65__ (share), she would always listen ___66__ (careful) and treat you like a friend rather than a student. The way she wanted us to succeed, the way she expected so much from us… It was obvious that she cared about our dreams and futures. ___67__ (she) personality just shows sunshine and warmth. A teacher who cares that much deserves a special place in ___68__ heart of her students.

Therefore, to sum it up, my Chinese teacher is possibly one of the most inspiring ___69__ (educator) I’ve ever had. Her considerate ways and heartfelt pride towards her students makes me feel warm. A good teacher is the one who explains, a better teacher demonstrates, but only the ___70__ (good) one can truly inspire.

I am kind and generous. I am always ready to give hand to a stranger whenever possible.

There are many reasons why helping others are good. Not only does it give us a great sense of satisfaction, but this satisfaction can result from a sense of belonging. I learnt this lesson by helping a total stranger out last Friday.

I was riding a bike back home while I came across an old man lying in the middle of the street with a basket full of things beside me. See this, I quickly came to him and help him stand up. I was happy to see he was not serious injured. The old man was too grateful that he was moved to the tears.

Helping others is really the easiest thing to make one happy!

Dear teachers and friends,

I feel greatly honored to give a speech here on behalf of all the exchange students.

Living and studying here in Canada makes us very fulfilled. During our stay, we have a better understanding of the Canadian life, culture, society and so on, which have not only enriched our knowledge but also broadened our horizons. Apart from that, our abilities including listening, speaking and writing English have also got greatly improved. And it is all the English teachers and classmates here that we should owe many thanks to. Without your help, we couldn’t achieve so much.

True friendship never ends, so I hope we can keep in touch with each other even after we go back home. And I also sincerely hope that someday you can come to China for a visit.

That’s all! Thank you!
